Email Validation
Email validation is an optional feature. To activate it, reach out to your account manager or email [email protected].
If email validation is enabled on your account, any new customers identified from your site will be checked to ensure that the email address is valid. This will provide a validation status and a validation reason. The validation status provides a high-level status as to whether the email address is generally safe to send an email or not and the validation reason if provided, gives a more detailed reason as to why an address has a given status.
Currently, RJ2 will only send emails to customers who have a validation status of Not Yet Validated or Valid. Not Yet Validated is included so that we do not miss sending emails to customers who have been identified prior to validation being enabled, or for customers who have been identified in RJ2 from a different source such as an imported newsletter list.
Validation Statuses
Status | Definition |
Not Yet Validated | This is the default status. Occasionally, it can take up to several minutes to be able to determine the validity of an email address once it has been identified within our system. Therefore customers will maintain this status until the validity can be determined. Additionally, this is the default status for accounts that have not enabled email validation. |
Valid | These are email addresses that have been determined to be valid and generally safe to send email to. |
Invalid | These are email addresses that have been determined to be invalid and should never be sent emails. |
Catch-All | These are email addresses that cannot necessarily be validated without actually sending an email. The server for the email address indicates that the address is valid, regardless of whether it is actually valid, hence the term "Catch-All". |
Spam Trap | These are email addresses that are determined to very likely be spam traps and should not be emailed. |
Abuse | These are email addresses that are known to make spam complaints and therefore, it is not recommended to email these addresses. |
Do Not Mail | These are valid email addresses, however, they are often email addresses that are not recommended to send to. It is important to make note of the reason an email address is marked as "Do Not Mail" as it will indicate why an address should not be sent emails. |
Unknown | These are email addresses that could not be validated. It is important to make note of the reason an email address is marked as "Unknown" as it will indicate why it could not be validated. |
